The fourth and fifth semester students of the Agro industrial Engineering Program, under the direction of the professors: Ana Carolina Torregroza, Eliana Martínez and Daniel Castañeda, developed a classroom project named: Establishing an Agricultural Zone.

Among the undertaken activities was the recovery and adequacy of the urban produce garden, through physical chemical analysis and microbiological tests of the ground where the study zone was located.

The results indicate that, although the ground has low fertility and scarce organic matter, or scarce availability of nutrients, with the agro ecological practices and improvements on the ground, it became possible to obtain corn and tomato produce. Additionally, it is expected that on long term the leguminous plants improve the physical chemical conditions of the ground to increase the yield of the established crops and start new ones to diversify the agricultural production.

On the other hand, new agricultural techniques were implemented to obtain vegetable and animal proteins. In this case, two aquaponic systems were designed, which consist in the recirculation of water employed to cultivate fish, which in turn contain essential nutrients for the development of plants. Diverse species of fish and plants were sown, among which can be underlined yellow bream and catfish, garlic and jalapeno, respectively.
